Choosing the right traineeship is an important step in any legal career. In this video, trainee solicitors Eve Mallon and Sam Farnan share their experiences and tell us in their own words why Gillespie Macandrew is a firm that provides opportunities, mentoring support and real-world experience to help shape your professional development.

Our trainees are encouraged to take on purposeful work, build strong client relationships and learn from experienced lawyers who are invested in their success. From day one, trainees will have an active role in delivering high-quality legal services while developing the skills and confidence needed for a successful career in law.

When asked what advice they would give to prospective applicants, Eve and Sam’s message is simple: be yourself. At Gillespie Macandrew, we want to get to know the person behind the application, so authenticity is key. Eve also highlights that a lack of legal work experience shouldn’t deter you from applying. Skills developed through part-time jobs, volunteering, sports, societies and other life experiences can be just as valuable in building a successful legal career.

As you prepare your application, take the time to clearly explain your experiences, motivations and what attracts you to Gillespie Macandrew. We encourage applicants to tailor their application to the firm, demonstrate an understanding of our business and proofread carefully before submitting. We would also encourage applicants to make use of the support available through university and college careers services when preparing their application.

Ready to take the next step in your legal journey? Discover what a traineeship at Gillespie Macandrew could offer you.

Applications for our 2028 Traineeships are now open and close on Monday 7th September 2026. Find out more and apply at Traineeships – Gillespie Macandrew
