We offer a two year Traineeship programme. Our Perth traineeship programme offers the opportunity to undertake a one year seat within our Land & Rural team as well as a one year seat in our Private Client team. For our Edinburgh traineeship programme, you will have the chance to experience up to four different departments, which may also include spending time in our Morningside and Glasgow offices in the following practice areas:

• Corporate
• Dispute Resolution
• Energy & Strategic Land
• Housebuilding
• Land and Rural Business
• Private Client, Tax and Charities
• Residential Property

Legal Traineeship Programme 2027

Applications for our 2027 Legal Traineeships are now closed and applications for our 2028 Legal Traineeships are due to open from Autumn 2026.

Mentoring, support and TCPD

You will be provided with a Mentor in each of your four seats at GM, this allows you to benefit from the guidance, support and knowledge of legal specialists, as well as increase your professional network.

Trainees are required to undertake 60 hours (minimum) of CPD throughout the course of a traineeship. Gillespie Macandrew LLP are a licensed provider of TCPD and ensures you will have more than the minimum required hours through a structured training programme. This includes regular knowledge sharing training sessions to keep you up to date with legislation changes as well as marketing and business development training.

Academic requirements

We welcome applications from all students who and intend to complete a PEAT 1 Diploma in Professional Legal Practice in Scotland.

There are no preferred entry routes, although we do look for strong academic records having already obtained or on track for a First or 2:1 honours degree (or the equivalent in an accelerated law degree).
